  20. Agreement forms strategic alliance in emerging digital video market

  22. SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -- August 28, 1991 --  SuperMac Technology™ today announced
  23. the sale of its ReelTime™ digital video editing software to Adobe Systems, Inc.
  24. Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  Under the terms of the
  25. agreement, SuperMac and Adobe will continue to co-develop the product.
  26. SuperMac will bundle ReelTime free with its VideoSpigot™ and VideoSpigot Pro
  27. digital video capture and playback systems for the first 90 days of shipping.

  29. “We are extremely pleased to be able to pioneer and develop the digital video
  30. market together with a leader like Adobe,” said Michael McConnell, president of
  31. SuperMac.  “It has been a long-standing tradition at SuperMac to create
  32. software that compliments our leading-edge hardware.  By subsequently finding a
  33. strong partner to market and evangelize the software, we can focus on our
  34. hardware strengths and together fuel market growth."

  36. According to McConnell, SuperMac's focus on innovative hardware solutions for
  37. emerging digital video led the company to develop application software to
  38. demonstrate the capabilities of the new hardware.  ReelTime was developed to
  39. showcase Apple's newly announced QuickTime™ media integration system software
  40. standard and SuperMac's family of digital video capture and playback systems.
  41. The sale of ReelTime allows SuperMac to concentrate on hardware development
  42. while allowing Adobe to market and co-develop the software.

  44. Adobe Systems, developer of the PostScript® page description language for
  45. electronic printing and publishing, plans to repeat the role it played in
  46. pioneering the desktop publishing market, this time with ReelTime.

  48. ReelTime allows Macintosh users to produce videos at their desktop for a wide
  49. variety of uses including interactive training, internal communications, and
  50. video publishing.  ReelTime provides complete digital video and audio editing
  51. capabilities with a broad range of plug-in digital effects and transitions.
  52. Movies can be viewed on the Macintosh or exported in NTSC or PAL formats with
  53. appropriate video cards.

  55. “By itself, ReelTime is a breakthrough product,” said Steven Blank,
  56. vice-president of marketing for SuperMac.  “Bundled with VideoSpigot, anyone
  57. can immediately begin producing videos on a desktop for under $1,000 — using
  58. tools previously available only to video professionals for more than $100,000.”

  60. Price and availability of ReelTime and VideoSpigot will be announced at a later
  61. date.

  63. SuperMac sells DiskFit and Network DiskFit to Dantz Development
  64.  
  65. In a related move, SuperMac announced the sale of its DiskFit and Network
  66. DiskFit utility software products to the original developers of the products,
  67. Dantz Development Corporation, effective October 1, 1991.   During the
  68. transition, SuperMac will continue to provide sales and technical support on
  69. the products.

  71. Thus SuperMac continues a process begun in July 1990 with its product
  72. SuperLaserSpool which was sold to Fifth Generation Systems.

  74. “Instead of spinning out the software line as a separate company, we have spun
  75. out the individual products,” McConnell said.  “The goal has remained the same:
  76. to focus SuperMac's resources and energy on creating world-class, innovative
  77. hardware technology that accelerates and enhances Apple's system software,
  78. continuing to invest heavily in the areas of color QuickDraw solutions and
  79. digital video.”

  81. Remaining are PixelPaint and PixelPaint Professional 2.0 which the company said
  82. it will continue to actively market, sell, and support until a definitive
  83. agreement is reached with a new publisher.

  86. system software standards.  The company is a leading supplier of graphics
  87. peripherals to the Macintosh color desktop publishing, color prepress and
  88. digital video markets.  SuperMac's products have received numerous editorial
